b. Smart meter data:

Where you provide explicit consent, we may collect historical smart meter consumption data (electricity and/or gas) for properties you own or occupy. This data is retrieved via n3rgy data Ltd using the national smart meter infrastructure. See Section 4 and Section 5 for further details.

c. Information collected automatically:

  • Device type, browser, IP address, and pages visited
  • Cookies and similar technologies for analytics and advertising purposes

d. Third-party data:

We may receive information from trusted partners (e.g., marketing platforms, analytics providers, or payment processors) to improve our services and communications.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your data to:

  • Respond to your enquiries and provide quotations or product information
  • Process your order and manage your account
  • Retrieve and analyse your smart meter consumption data to produce an energy storage feasibility study (where consent has been given)
  • Improve our website, tools, and customer experience
  • Send marketing communications (only where you've opted in)
  • Analyse traffic and campaign performance using tools like Google Analytics, Meta Ads, and similar

We never sell your data to third parties.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your data under one or more of the following lawful bases:

  • Consent — for marketing or optional communications, and for the retrieval and processing of your smart meter consumption data. Where we access your smart meter data, we will always obtain your explicit consent beforehand via a Letter of Authority or digital consent form. You may withdraw this consent at any time (see Section 7).
  • Contractual necessity — to provide requested products or services
  • Legitimate interests — to improve our services and website performance
  • Legal obligation — to comply with tax or regulatory requirements

5. Smart Meter Data — Additional Information

Where you provide consent for us to access your smart meter data, the following applies:

  • Purpose: Smart meter consumption data is retrieved solely to produce a one-off energy storage feasibility study for your property. It is not used for any other purpose.
  • Data processor: Smart meter data is retrieved via n3rgy data Ltd (company number 11712674, registered at Prennau House Copse Walk, Pontprennau, Cardiff, CF23 8XH), which operates under the Smart Energy Code (SEC) using its SEC Party credentials.
  • Data retrieved: Historical half-hourly electricity and/or gas consumption data for your property.
  • Retention: Consumption data is deleted within 30 days of your feasibility study being delivered to you. Consent evidence records are retained for a minimum of 4 years as required under the Smart Energy Code.
  • Withdrawal: You may withdraw your consent for smart meter data access at any time by emailing hello@wattbox.co.uk. Following receipt of a withdrawal request, access will be removed via the n3rgy API within 5 working days. WattBox Power Ltd will also proactively withdraw consent within 5 working days of completing your data retrieval.

6. Data Sharing

We may share your data with:

  • Service providers who help us operate our website, CRM, or analytics (e.g., Webflow, Xano, WeWeb, Stripe, Google Analytics)
  • n3rgy data Ltd — for the purpose of retrieving smart meter consumption data where you have provided consent
  • Delivery or logistics partners to fulfil orders
  • Legal or regulatory authorities when required by law

All partners are required to comply with UK GDPR data protection standards.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data only as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this policy. Smart meter consumption data is deleted within 30 days of your feasibility study being delivered. You can request deletion of other personal data at any time.

8. Your Rights

Under the UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time — this applies both to marketing communications and to smart meter data access. Withdrawal of consent for smart meter data will result in access being removed within 5 working days.
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk
